Upon the expiration of a charter school's charter, the school must apply for renewal if the school wishes to continue to operate as a charter school in New York State. Renewal is not automatic and school must submit a two-piece application requiring extensive data collection and analysis, school-wide reflection on the school's performance and plan for the future development of the school.
