Health Directors (HD) for each borough provide support for the School Health Program and for local health initiatives.

HDs assure compliance with school health policy mandates and program directives, including student immunization requirements. They review existing policies and procedures and recommend changes when appropriate.

HD's work with regional staff, principals, school administrators and school health personnel to improve health programs at the school level; serve as the regional liaison to Office of School Health to raise and clarify policy issues; and assist in monitoring the performance of School-Based Health Centers. They also work closely with the Office of Related and Contractual Services on issues pertaining to accommodations for students in general education and assist in arranging for school-based staff to be trained in Automated External Defibrillators and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (AED/CPR) training. In addition, they help to determine and oversee the role of health aides assigned to schools.
