Bottom Line Goal 1:
Inquiry Work will be embedded within the curriculum for all grades, Pre-K – 5 and for all subjects. Teacher Teams will meet regularly to:
Ø Examine student work, using a specific protocol
Ø Discuss common trends and share questions raised by them
Ø Make informed decisions about teaching and learning:
*Update curriculum maps
*Write lesson plans
*Implement new strategies/build on successful strategies
*Share resources
All teachers will come to team meetings prepared with student work that demonstrates, “patterns,contradictions, themes or gaps for a particular group of students.” Minutes must be taken at all team meetings.
Bottom Line Goal 2:
All classrooms will show evidence of differentiation of instruction. Students will be grouped according to their readiness, learning styles and interests. Evidence of differentiated teaching and learning will include:
Ø Children learning in small groups for a specific purpose
Ø Authentic student work with descriptions, rubrics and ratings
Ø Portfolios
Ø Lesson Plans
Ø Varied questioning techniques (Blooms’sTaxonomy)
Ø Independent Reading, according to TC levels and student goals
Enrichment Clusters will become more “academicized” (Joseph S. Renzulli) by incorporating more scholastic material and teacher expertise. The P.S. 11 Enrichment Team will support this process.
Bottom Line Goal 3:
There will be a continued emphasis on Literacy and Math Workshops, with a concerted focus on Guided Reading/Book Clubs in Literacy and Problem Solving in Math.
Carl Anderson will work with all teachers, Pre-K – 5 to develop a writing assessment so that teachers can better gauge where their children are as writers. All teachers will sharpen their conferencing skills and be better able to prescribe anecdotes for improved writing craft.
Network Support Specialists and selected Teacher Teams will provide professional development on deepening the Literacy and Math Workshops by:
Ø Integrating science, social studies and th earts into literacy and math blocks
Ø Developing critical thinking with more “why”and “how” questions
