Spanish

Foreign Language instruction in New York City is guided by New York State standards and provides students the opportunity to develop communicative competency and a cultural understanding in at least one language other than English.

At PS127Q, students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade take Spanish as their Foreign Language.  In 6th grade students receive instruction once a week.  The lessons allow the students to become acquainted with some of the daily routines of the Spanish classroom.  Students are exposed to essential question words, phonetic differences and frequently used phrases for greetings.  They also identify classroom objects and practice regular commands.  In 7th grade students receive instruction twice a week.  At this level, students build a large foundation of the basic vocabulary (colors, numbers, the weather, etc.) and regular verbs, grammar structures and various readings about the Spanish culture.  In 8th grade students receive instruction twice a week.  Students have an extensive review of what they have learned earlier. They are also introduced to irregular verbs, past tense, reflexive verbs and more complex vocabulary and readings.
