Dear Parents and Students:
Safety always comes first at Forest Hills High School. It is for this reason that we are urgently requesting that cell phones and IPod’s be left at home. The theft of cell phones and IPod’s have become a city wide epidemic. Students are being approached on their way home from school in an attempt to steal their cell phones and IPod’s. In some cases students have been assaulted. Most recently it has been reported that adults have also become victims of cell phone theft. We are committed and determined to insuring student safety and protecting our students.
I have been informed by the Captain from the 112 Precinct that there has been a dramatic increase of robberies of cell phones and I-Pod’s in the Forest Hills community. Furthermore, our students are the number one target! If your child is approached by a suspect, they should not challenge the suspect and give them what they want. Lieutenant D’Amico from the 112 Precinct can be reached at 718-520-9281, or 718-520-9311.
Chancellor’s Regulation A 412 Section V clearly prohibits any electronic communication device in school. In addition, it is a violation of Citywide Standards of Discipline and Intervention Measures (The Discipline Code) ---B05.
Our policy at Forest Hills High School regarding electronic devices is simple:
CELL PHONES, I-PODS, AND OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE NOT PERMITTED IN ANY SCHOOL.
--- Any cell phone or electronic device will be confiscated if seen.
--- Cell phones, I-Pod’s, and ALL electronic devices will be returned only to parents on FRIDAY’S between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:00PM. in room 141.
Thank you for helping us to protect our students. Remind your children to leave their cell phones and all other electronic devices home.
Sincerely,
Saul Gootnick
