Ms. Goodstein, the 6th and 9th gradeCounselor and Ms. Shriki, the 7th and 8th grade Counselorare two middle school counselors trained and licensed by New York State. They are trained to understand the manychallenges of students in a diverse and ever changing world within a mentalhealth perspective.
They have implemented the US National Model: A Framework forSchool Counseling. The programemphasizes and encourages a collaboration between staff, parents and studentsin order to provide support in the following areas: academic skills, copingstrategies, peer relationships, problem solving, career and interest planning;the list is endless.
Our Guidance Counselors have worked closely with the JohnsHopkins Center for Talented Youth Program, Prep for Prep and Hunter CollegeHigh School in order to facilitate the identification and admissions process.Over the years, we have had many students who have been selected to participatein these prestigious programs.
In order to prepare students for high school, our Counselorsplan high school presentations for parents, invite guest speakers to our weeklyassembly programs and work closely with students checking each High Schoolapplication in order to ascertain its appropriateness for that particularstudent.
Additionally, students in grade 8 participate in manyCollege Awareness programs and activities. They are involved in the My College Optionsprogram and this year will be taking an overnight trip to visit variouscolleges and universities in the Boston area.
It is Ms. Goodstein’s and Ms. Shriki’s commitment to createa caring and supportive atmosphere for students and faculty in order to achieveoptimal personal growth and acquisition of positive social skills.
