MS 202 Attendance Policy

ATTENDANCE

            Attendance and punctuality are keys to successful achievement in school. All students are expected to be in school if they are physically able to be. School hours are 8:10am to 3:00pm. Breakfast is served, free of charge, from 7:40 to 8:05am.  Arrivals after 8:20am, requires the student to obtain a late pass to class.

 

ABSENCES

            If your child is absent, you MUST send in an absence note explaining why the child was absent from school.  It must include the date(s) the child was absent and the reason.  Absences in excess of five (5) days require a note from the doctor including the date when the child is allowed to return. When the student is absent, he/she is required to make up all assignments within a reasonable time frame.  The student should have phone numbers or email addresses of classmates in order to obtain the assignments missed.


CUTTING CLASSES

            Nostudent is to be absent from any class unless officially excused orlegitimately absent for the day. Cutting of classes is a violation of New YorkState Law, Chancellor’s Regulations, as well as school regulations, and isabsolutely prohibited.  If caught,the student will be subject to disciplinary measures as outlined in theChancellor’s Regulations.


LATENESS TO SCHOOL AND CLASS

            Studentsare expected to arrive to school and to each class on time.  Students who are late to class, anyperiod of the day, without a valid note, will be considered cutting,

            Ifthe student arrives late to school, he/she must obtain a late pass from theattendance aides near the main entrance, or in the attendance office, if theaides are no longer stationed at the door.

            Allstudents are required to arrive to their assigned classroom prior to the startof class.  Adequate time (3minutes) is provided for students to reach their classes before the end of thepassing period.  Unexcusedtardiness is disruptive to the educational process and forces the teacher intounnecessary repetition.
