PS/MS 47Q Policies and Procedures
Arrival
School doors open promptly at 7:47 A.M.
for breakfast. The instructional day begins promptly at 8:10 A.M. When dropping off children, DO NOT enter Power Road between 7:45 A.M. and 8:15 A.M. with your car.
Dismissal
School ends promptly at 2:30 P.M. Monday through Friday. The extended day program will dismiss at 3:20 P.M. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Everyone will be dismissed at 2:30 P.M. on Wednesday and Friday.
Safety
To ensure a safe school environment, all visitors must enter through the main entrance. You will be required to show proof of identification and sign in at the security desk. You will be given a pass and directed to the main office where you will state the reason for your visit. No visitor is to proceed unescorted from this point.
Lunch Forms
This year a completed lunch form must be submitted for each family attending school. Please make sure that you submit your form as soon as possible. If you have more than one child in school, only ONE form per family needs to be filled out. For assistance, please contact the school.
Attendance and Punctuality
Regular attendance is important to ensure successful positive growth in the school. All children are expected to be in attendance every day except if they are ill. Students returning to school after an absence must bring a written note signed by the parent explaining the reason for the absences and/or doctor's note. Children who leave early must be picked up before 2:00 P.M. and must be signed out at the front desk. Students should arrive to school promptly at 8:10 A.M. Lateness interferes with your child's learning.
Emergency Blue Cards
We must be able to locate a parent in the event of an emergency (i.e. illness, accident or school closing). It is imperative that you keep the school updated on changes in telephone numbers at home or the work place. Also, make certain that additional emergency contact names and telephone numbers are updated on a regular basis Doctor or emergency room medical attendants will NOT treat children without parental consent.
Guidance
Parents are invited to discuss matters of concern with the school's guidance counselor. The school guidance counselor meets with children individually, as well as in small groups. If you feel your child would benefit from counseling services due to family crisis, change in family structure, learning or behavioral difficulties, please contact the guidance office.
Library
Students are encouraged to use the local branch of the Queens Public Library. All children who can sign their names should have a library card.
Homework
Homework is given every day including Friday. Each child is expected to do independent reading for 20-40 minutes each day. Please check your child's planner every night. This is a great tool for communicating between the school and home.
School Leadership Team
The School Leadership Team is composed of Administration, Parents, Teachers and Support Staff. This team meets monthly to discuss, plan and implement the Comprehensive Educational Plan (CEP) and to determine the budgetary needs of the school. The focus of the team is to assist all students in meeting the standards.
Parent Association
The Parent Association of P.S. 47Q welcomes you to join in making this year a successful one. Let's work together to ensure that our children receive the education they are entitled to Together, in collaboration with teachers and staff, we can make P.S. 47Q a rich learning environment for our children.

Global Connect
We are pleased to announce our partnership with Global Connect this year which will result in timely, reliable parent notification It will lead to increased safety and response planning for emergency and weather situations, as well as attendance/tardiness notifications and announcements. You will be receiving phone notifications.
