COURSE DESCRIPTION and OBJECTIVES:

Entrepreneurship covers essentials of successfully starting and managing a small business, including store location, organization, merchandise control, layout, buying, pricing, advertising, government regulations, taxes, labor relations, and public relations. Students participate in a Virtual Fund Raising activity for the United Way Charities. This course will provide an excellent background for students wishing to pursue a business major in college.

Core Abilities

Demonstrate critical thinking skills in gathering, analyzing, interpreting facts, and problem solving using scientific inquiry.

Demonstrate writing, listening, computer, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

C.

Distinguish between the positive and negative implications of physical, mental, and community health principles on individual and community wellness.

D.

Evaluate knowledge of the implications of being a citizen in a global community.

E.

Demonstrate knowledge of the creative process and the ability to appraise the significance of the visual, literary, or performing arts.

Course Outcomes

1.

Integrate knowledge of the social, economic, and legal contexts within which businesses operate. Illustrate that this context is global, pointing out an appreciation of opportunities and perspectives associated with other cultures.

Explain theoretical and practical understanding of concepts, models, and techniques associated with different business disciplines.

3.

Network effectively with others in situations requiring teambuilding, leadership, change, and negotiation.

4.

Evaluate and access information to interpret, summarize, synthesize and convey this information to others using presentation software and equipment.

Summarize and communicate ideas, observations, analyses, conclusions, and recommendations to others in a variety of professional contexts.

Interpret and analyze business situations by using measurement systems and frameworks from relevant business functional areas to identify and solve problems. Effectively operate in unstructured situations, self-managed learning and career development.

Assess customer needs and develop effective approaches to customer service.

Determine responsibilities of community members and the use of ethics as an integral feature of personal, social, and professional considerations.

Construct a methodical approach to planning and guiding project processes from start to finish. The processes are guided through five stages: initiation, planning, executing, controlling, and closing.
