Dear Parents:
I am pleased to announce that the fall/winter session of will begin the week of October 1st. For the fall/winter session various courses will be offered pertaining to your child’s educational need, grade, and interest level. All courses will last for 15 sessions beginning October 1st and ending the week of February 11th. Monday through Thursday the classes will be from 3:00 to 5:00. Children who go to the afterschool program and do not attend the extended day program will be supervised until the after school program begins at 3:00. On Friday the classes will be from 2:20 to 4:20. All children must be picked up promptly. On Mondays a Homework Helpers/Recreational Board Games course is being offered for children in grades K-5. Also on Mondays we are excited to offer a Piano course for students in grades K-5 and a Literature Circle Course for students in grades K-2. On Tuesdays we will be conducting a Math Enrichment Program for students in grades K-2, a The Learn to Read the Wilson Way course for students in grades 1-2 and a Dance course for students in grades 3-5. On Wednesdays we will be offering a Literature/Crafts/Cooking course for students in grades K-5 and a Piano course for students in grades K-5. On Thursdays “The P.S. 46 Drama Club” program is being offered to students in grades K-5 and on Fridays a Sports/Recreational Games program and a Piano course for students in grades K-5.
Our Homework Helpers/Recreational Board Games program is being offered to students in grades K-5. Children who participate in this program will receive 45 minutes of one on one help to complete their individual homework assignments and 45 minutes of recreational board games. This course is designed to assist with homework help and having fun participating in various board games. The price for this course is $130.00 for 15 sessions.
Literature Circle is being offered to students in grades K-2. This course will target the following strategies which will relate to the standards: Benchmarks for the NY State ELA, read alouds, character analysis, making inferences, main idea, cause and effect, context clues, figurative language, sequencing, and retelling. Student will write book reviews, publish, and illustrate their work. The price for this course is $130.00 for 15 sessions.
The Piano program is being offered, to students K-5, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This course will provide your child with piano instruction while also incorporating music theory and history. Each child will be taught at his/her appropriate level from beginner through advanced. Children who achieve a certain level of proficiency will have the opportunity to perform at Star Assemblies and school concerts. The price for this course is $135.00 for 15 sessions.
Our Math Enrichment Program is being offered to students in grades K-2. Children who participate in this program will learn math in an exciting way using hands-on materials and creating exciting projects. Some of the topics included will be fractions, time, and measurement. The Math Enrichment Program is designed to implement the New York State Mathematics Standards. The price for this course is $130.00 for 15 sessions.
The Learn to Read the Wilson Way course is being offered to students in grades 1-2. It is designed to help your child improve his or her word reading, comprehension, and spelling skills. Through the Wilson Reading System your child will learn vowel and consonant sounds, digraphs, blends, closed syllables, suffixes, and much more. This structured program will help your child to easily read and recognize new words. Learn to read the Wilson say and become a better reader. The price for this course is $130.00 for 15 sessions.
The Dance program is being offered to students in grades 3-5. Children who participate in this special program will learn the latest dance moves. We will have fun practicing dance and learning from each other. Students will be participating in upcoming concerts and shows. The price for this course is $130.00 for 15 sessions.
Our Literature/Crafts/Cooking course is designed to implement the New York State Project Arts standards. Children who participate in this course will have the opportunity to make creative art projects and learn to cook some delicious treats to bring home. We, the teachers, ensure that this will be a creative as well as educational experience for your child. This special course will be offered to students in grades K-5. The price for the course will be $130.00 for 15 sessions.
Our Drama Club program is designed to implement the New York State Literacy and Performance Arts Standards. This course is being offered to students in grades K-5. Our culminating activity for this session will be the play Alice in Wonderland, presented in the evening. The price for the Drama Club course is $135.00 for 15 sessions. (Occasionally your child will be needed to attend additional rehearsal dates).
Our Sports/Recreational Games Program is designed to implement the New York State Physical Educational Standards. Students in grades K-5 who participate in the Sports/Recreational Games program will have the opportunity to increase fine motor skills and athletic abilities while enjoying playing many fun filled activities. The price for this course will be $130.00 for 15 sessions.
I would like to urge parents to take advantage of these wonderful programs that help not only to encourage continued learning, build self-esteem, group interaction, creativity, but most importantly fun through the process of learning.
Please fill out the registration form below and put it in an envelope with your check made out to “District 26 Self-Sustaining Fund”. Have your child give it to his/her teacher, or drop it off in the Main Office. Please register as soon as possible in that all classes will be filled on a first come, first served basis!
