Dear Parent/Guardian:
June is just around the corner. There are many important dates and events this month in anticipation of the end of school. Please keep this letter as a handy reference which will provide information for the last month of school.
1) School meals for June-18 days
Lunch (full price)--$27.000 Lunch (reduced price)--$ 4.50
Kindly remit payment by Wednesday June 4, 2008. If paying by check, make check payable to P.S. 236. Write your child’s first and last name in the memo area. If checks are returned for insufficient funds, there will be a $35.00 bank fee imposed.
All students who eat school lunch and who qualify for full or reduced price lunch must pay for lunch. Any students owing money for school lunch at the end of the school year will not receive his/her report card until money owed to the school is paid in full. In addition, fifth graders who owe money for lunch will not receive his/her diploma until payment is made in full. If students are transferring to a new school, records will not be sent to the new school until payment is made. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
2. In mid to late June, textbooks will be collected from students (non-consumable books). If students have lost their book(s), parents are responsible for paying for the book in question. You will be notified of the fee involved if your child has lost his/her book(s). Report cards and/or diplomas will not be issued until the child’s record is clear.
3) Also in June, students will be asked to return library books borrowed to the school library. If a student has lost a book, parents will be asked to pay to replace the book. Again, if a child does not have a clean record with the school library, report cards/diplomas will be withheld until the parent pays for the lost book(s).
4. Final report cards for the school year will be distributed on Thursday June 26th. Report cards will not be issued earlier than dismissal time on June 26th. If your child will not be present that day, you may send in a self-addressed stamped envelope to your child’s teacher. We ask that you furnish a self addressed stamped 8 1/2 x 11 size envelope to accommodate the report card and any certificates your child may receive. Four 42 cent stamps should be placed on the envelope. The report card will be mailed after June 26th to the address indicated on the envelope.
5. Again, please be reminded of appropriate dress for students at P.S. 236 during warm weather days:
Shorts: Knee length or lower shorts may be worn. No short shorts.
Shirts: No tank tops; no t-shirts with inappropriate sayings or advertising for cigarettes or alcohol. No shirt that show the stomach.
Shoes/sandals: Children should wear closed shoes (buckle, tie or slip on).Backless shoes are not permitted as they are dangerous while walking or moving. 8. We have been informed that school will start for students in September on Tuesday September 2nd. This day will be a full day of school for all students except students in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten. Information will be mailed to parents with regard to the specific time schedule for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten in late summer.
9. As we end another school year (it’s hard to believe), I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, the parents, for your support of your children and our efforts here at 236 to educate them. It takes the entire school community working together to provide a premium learning environment for our children. We have proven once again at 236 that working together (administration, teachers, staff, students and parents) our children attain great results in all they do! I wish nothing but great success for our departing students and their parents. For our returning families, I wish you a great summer and we will see you in September.
Even though it is summer vacation, I encourage you to have your children read and write over the summer to keep their minds sharp. Your child will receive a short summer reading assignment to complete which will be due the first day of school. Even with this, reading and discussing both can be fun too!
Have a great summer!
Sincerely,
Mary Barton
