P.S. 236 is an iZone School
What does that mean?

New York City has designed the iZone to free schools from the compliance-oriented culture that has inhibited real innovation in our nation’s schools. Schools within the iZone are provided the resources and support to pioneer new models that transform what schools look like, personalizing instruction to the needs of each individual student, and dramatically improving student achievement.
This Pilot Program has given our 3rd & 5th Graders the use of net books to learn instruction in ELA & Math daily.

Lego Mindstorms
4th Grade

The LEGO* MINDSTORMS* NXT software enables you to program your NXT robotic invention and upload your programs to the NXT via USB connectivity. The intuitive Mac and PC compatible drag and drop software, powered by National Instruments LabVIEW, comes with building instructions and programming guides to easily begin constructing and programming with MINDSTORMS NXT.

Lego WeDo
3rd Grade

It’s never fun to sit on the sidelines, and thanks to LEGO® Education’s newest addition to its robotics continuum, WeDo™ Robotics, young learners no longer have to remain benchwarmers! WeDo engages children in hands-on technology experiments that focus on science, mathematics, social studies, and language concepts.

Developed as an introduction to robotics, WeDo fits well into the LEGO robotics continuum that also features the LEGO MINDSTORMS® robotic line.
We
Do, which remains connected to the computer at all times, helps create a clear link between the virtual world (computers and programming) and the physical world (represented by LEGO models).
Through the use of icon-based programming software, students quickly and easily learn how to write and download programs to their LEGO creations.
The basics of programming, engineering, and constructing are all part of the process.
