Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to another eventful year at I.S. 281. Our school website is an excellent tool to communicate with the households of our students. Please continue to check it on a regular basis for school news and announcements.
Our Senior Class is a wonderful group and we truly want to make this a year to remember! Our Senior Jersey Day was a great success, and we have already had our first yearbook photo day. It is hard to believe that our children have entered their third year at Cavallaro. On our way to June graduation, it is my goal to schedule a variety of events that celebrate the efforts of your child inside our building and beyond.
High School Application Process - Your child has just been provided with his/her high school application. Accompanying it was a letter to parents that offered tips about how to properly complete this document. On Tuesday evening October 28 we will host our High School Information Night during which members of our guidance staff will be on hand to discuss the application process. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Schussler or Ms. Wiener in our guidance office (718) 996-6706 to assist you.
Senior Days – Throughout the school year several days will be dedicated to our Senior Class. Recently, we had Senior Jersey Day where our boys and girls demonstrated their team spirit by wearing the jerseys of some of their favorite athletes. On Friday October 24, we will have Senior Mismatch Day. We look forward to seeing our children throw away their fashion sense to come up with some of the zaniest combinations yet. Please note that prior to any Senior Day a flyer or letter will be sent home to parents detailing the guidelines of acceptable practices for that day.
Senior Demerit System – At the beginning of the school year an assembly was held to review our Senior Demerit System and code of conduct. Please discuss the importance of good decision-making with your child. Those who do receive a demerit will have the opportunity to work it off by utilizing our daily conduct sheets. If you have any questions regarding the demerit system, feel free to contact Mr. Silberstein at (718) 996-6706 Extension 2262. Please return the necessary tear-offs to your child’s homeroom teacher.
Senior Dues – At the beginning of the school year an information packet was sent home with your child regarding the payment of Senior Dues. Each student who pays senior dues will receive their cap, gown and tassel for our graduation ceremony, a hardcopy of our senior yearbook, a DVD yearbook, senior class t-shirt and polo shirt, free admission to school dances and a host of other senior activities. Senior dues are $100 and can be paid in twenty dollar increments. Please pay with a check or money order.
Report Card Distribution and Parent Teacher Conferences – Our first quarter Report Cards will be distributed on the evening of Monday, November 17 and the afternoon of Tuesday, November 18. On these dates, we will also be hosting our Parent - Teacher Conferences. Report Cards will only be distributed to parents who are in attendance. Please take advantage of this opportunity to meet with our teachers to discuss your child's academic growth and development.
Senior Cap, Gown and Jewelry Day – On Monday October 27 your child will be measured for his/her cap and gown for our June graduation ceremony. They will also have the opportunity to order items such as a Senior Class ring, diploma case or autograph book. A week prior to the event, an information packet will be sent home with pricing. Please review it and send the necessary payment to school with your son/daughter on October 27th.
We are all excited about the 2008-2009 school year. Let’s work together to make the Class of 2009 the best one yet!
If you ever you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at (718) 996-6706 Extension 2261.
Sincerely,
