Our Community
We are affiliated with the Neighborhood Improvement Association and the Federation of Italian American Organizations and have a partnership with the Council for Unity. We also receive support from local area newspapers and political leaders. Our students perform community outreach service with local Senior Citizens Centers.

Cavallaro's Annual Coat Drive takes place during the month of January. We collect coats of all sizes to give to some of the less fortunate in our community. Please help keep others in our community warm this winter by donating your old or used coat to the Cavallaro Coat Drive!

The month of February is Valentines for Veterans month. Students will create Valentine's cards for the Veteran's Hospital at Poly Place, Brooklyn. Please help us show our love for all of the brave men and women who have fought for our country!

For the past three years our students and their families have been generous contributors to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Societies "Pennies For Patients" charity drive.  In each year we have been a top ten citywide school contributor (in 2006 we were a second place contributor and in 2005 we were a third place contributor).  Students bring in donations (often more than pennies) throughout a three week period during the month of May.  Contributions help families who have children that are afflicted with juvenile blood cancer and a portion of the money also goes to research.  Please start to save those pennies because IS 281 is ready for our first, first place finish in the city!!!
