The Computer Technology Program at P.S. 506

The Computer Technology Program at P.S. 506, is implemented with the latest technology  in order to immerse our students with the best technological learning opportunities. Our i-book  computer technology  program  takes place in our  lab and the  i-book  computer technology mobile cart  program  is conducted in classrooms. Both  focus on preparing  students to acquire the technological knowledge and skills needed to  meet the standards  set forth for students  of  the 21st Century global community.  

At P.S. 506, students in grades K to5 learn to use  the latest  hardware such as the Mac i-books andmultimedia peripherals. Students learn to use the  best software available such as Kidspiration 3, Pixie 2,  PrintShop, the Microsoft Suite, I-Work, as well as,  I-Life  to create challenging and fun projects. In addition,  technology lessons in the computer lab, remedial   and enrichment activities  in classrooms are presented with the interactive SmartBoards.

Through, project-based learning activities with a focus on Social Studies Themes, goals are met for students to learn technological skills and use their creative thinking as they construct knowledge to  develop  presentations and processes by:
•    Using digital media  to  communicate and work  independently or collaboratively with other students;
•     Using digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information;
•   Applying critical thinking skills to  conduct research, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources;
•     Understanding  human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior;
•     Demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations.

 This 2010-201 school year, we have added: additional SmartBoards in classrooms,  i-books and mobile carts to our hardware inventory; & classroom desktops & printers; Also, we have a school/home subscription of the interactive enrichment website BrainPOP and  the school interactive  Literacy Skills website named Imagine Learning.
