The  English Language Learners Program at P.S. 506

P.S. 506 provides instruction to English Language Learners through a  free-standing English as a Second Language Program. The program includes self-contained classes, pull-out and push-in models. The language of instruction in all classes is English. The teachers’ develop students’ skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. This is accomplished by the use of visuals, frequent repetition, the use of graphic organizers, guided instruction, and vocabulary development.

Our program’s goal is to enhance vocabulary development in order to attain English proficiency (as is measured by  the NYSELAST assessment) and meeting the N.Y.S. Academic Achievement Standards.

We at P.S. 506, as we build our students’strengths, recognize and validate individual student needs and learning styles, as well as, appreciate the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of our student population.
