Brooklyn High School of the Arts (BHSA) Vocal Department Mission Statement

The Brooklyn High School of the Arts Vocal Department is comprised of four ensembles:
The Performing Choir | The Concert Choir | Women's Chorus | The Gospel Chorus

The Brooklyn High School of the Arts Vocal Department is a four year arts program that is designed for the serious vocal musician. The vocal program is designed to develop the singer as a complete artist who will be able to audition for any arts university in the world. Students accepted into the program will participate in a challenging an rigorous course of study. The program offers music theory, including rhythmic, harmonic, solfege
  graded exercises; and vocal production five days a week. Our repertoire is a broad selection of musical styles, which include classical, ethnic, folk, and pop music.
 
The BHSA vocal department past performances include appearances at Shea Stadium for the New York METS, The Heritage Festival in Boston, Mass., The National Chorale, Region 8 Arts Festival, and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center to name a few. The BHSA vocal department is a recipient of the gold medal at level six from the New York State School Music Association Festival.

The current director of the BHSA vocal department is Mr. Avid Williams,
and past directors include Mrs. Charlene Corbett-Thomas and Mrs. Alexis Fila.
