ESL (English as a Second Language)

At PS 54, our mission is to provide ESL students and  their family with equity and access to an excellent education. We accomplish this through strengthening our instructional staff, promoting parental involvement and using improved materials and resources. The school has a rigorous learning environment that focuses on academic  achievement, language, social development and cross-cultural support. 

Lessons are designed and delivered in way that allows students to understand the content, encouraging them to develop their English language skills. Our teachers employ a wide array of strategies to help students understand content in their second language.
