Classroom Expectations

In order to create a strong classroom learning environment, we, the community members of CSSJ, agree to adopt the following classroom expectations:

  • Be on time to class. If I do come to class late, I won't stop to say hello to classmates or make a lot of noise as I get ready to work. I WILL get to work quietly and quickly and let the teacher know that I am sorry for not being on time.

  • Come prepared with supplies (notebook, pens, pencils, completed homework) and ready to work (get to work on the "do now" or other work) without delay.

  • Use appropriate language (no racial, homophobic, sexist or other exclusionary language and no cursing or violent language).

  • Keep electronic devices out of the classroom because they disrupt learning and disrupt others. Electronic devices include: cell phones, iphones, ipods, MP3s, Sidekicks, PSPs, and other similar devices.

  • Respect myself, my classmates, and my teachers. This means I will listen to others, not interupt, and not have side conversations, nor will I tease, ridicule, bully or act in a hateful/hurtful manner to anyone in the class. I WILL help make my classroom a comfortable and safe learning environment for everyone.

  • Respect my classroom and my school's physical space. This means I won't bring food or drinks into the classroom, that I will put my gum in the trash can, that I will not leave behind any litter or trash in the classroom, desk, halls, or stairways. I WILL keep my school clean.

  • Dress appropriately. This means no hats, du-rags, offensive slogan shirts, revealing outfits, gang flags, or exposure of beads.

Have a pass and teacher permission to leave the classroom. As well, students cannot leave the classroom during the first or last 10 minutes of the class period and only one student at a time may leave the class.
