Attendance Matters

There is probably no factor more important to successful school progress than regular school attendance. Students who are excessively absent from the instructional program will fall behind in academic achievement. Excessive school absenteeism can result in failing the grade. Listed below are highlights of the attendance policy:

A student accumulating eighteen or more unexcused class absences in a school year will fail the promotional requirement for attendance and is in jeopardy of repeating the grade. The following are considered excused absences:

I. Student Illness

II. Medical appointment

III. Death in the family

IV. Observance of a religious holiday or service when it is mandated for all members of a faith that such a holiday or service be observed.

V. Other individual student absences beyond the control of the parent or the student as approved by the principal or designee (Prearranged absence must be submitted).

Students who are absent from school MUST bring in a note signed by the parent/guardian or medical documentation to the attendance office (Room 104). Additionally, students should not take full days off in order to fulfill doctor’s appointments. If a child has a morning appointment, he/she should come to school after the appointments. Likewise, if a child has an afternoon appointment, he/she should come to school in the morning and get picked up by the parent in order to attend the appointment.
