Conduct Code

At Mott Hall High School students are expected to make appropriate decisions that will ensure success in all areas.  Individuals are responsible for their own success and failures, which are determined by our daily choices.  Please observe the following behavior and adhere to the more specific rules in the Student/Parent Contract given at the start of the school year.

  • Be polite to everyone and observe good manners.
  • Be alert and attentive to learning opportunities.
  • Be prepared for class by bringing all necessary books and materials with you.
  • Arrive on time and ready to learn.
  • Move about the school in an orderly and respectful manner.
  • Be considerate of the school, its classrooms and the school community be keeping our space clean, organized and quiet.
  • Welcome visitors and show them why our school is a special place for learning.
  • Be respectful of the other school communities that share our building.  Students are not permitted on another school floor without permission of a school authority and a pass.

Please be aware:

  1. The following items are not permitted on school grounds:
    • Walkmen/Discmen/MP3 Players/iPods
    • Illegal substances
    • Weapons
    • Visible/audible cell phone and beepers:  As per the NYC Department of Education Chancellor's Regulation no cell phones are permitted in NYC Public Schools at any time.
      • If a cell phone or electronic device is seen or heard by any staff member it will be confiscated and a parent/guardian must come to school to pick up the phone.  No phones will be released to students.
      • Mott Hall High School will not be responsible for any device that is lost, stolen, or confiscated.
  2. Soda, candy, food are not allowed outside of the lunchroom.
  3. Gum is not allowed in any part of the building.  Chewing gum in school can lead to the student being given detention.
  4. Students are not allowed out of the building without being signed out by a parent/guardian.
  5. Students are expected to follow the basic rules of behavior, which prohibit all forms of stealing, vandalism, dishonesty, cheating, plagarism, cursing, littering, graffiti, bullying or destruction of school property on the way to school, while in school or on the way home.

Students that do not follow the rules will serve detention.  Any staff member can assign detention with just cause.
