Enrichment Clubs

Students have soooooooooooo much to do at PS 20.  We have conflict managers, cheerleaders, the basketball team, morning drama, math, and science clubs, band, chorus, and much more! 

PS 20 has had a successful Conflict Management (Peer Mediation) process in place for the last 16 years.Trained student peer mediators are on duty during all lunch hours Monday through Friday. Operating in teams, our student mediators are trained to help other students talk through and resolve their problems before these problems can become more serious.

Fourth and fifth grade students are interviewed, recruited and then trained to help mediate disputes that may arise with their peers or younger children.  Needless to say, our student conflict managers learn life skills in the art of talking through problems and de-escalating the more serious conflicts. The forty student conflict managers become role models for younger students. They help to set a high standard of behavior and responsibility for all of our students.

Our morning enrichment clubs are run by our staff and our collaborating partners from NY Cares.  Each club has about 15 adult volunteers who work side by side with the students, donating their precious time to bring a high level of engagement and rigor to the clubs.  Our students are basically busting down the doors to play math games or interpret plays in these clubs.
