Principals and teachers face substantial demands on their time during the school day. Unfortunately, these demands often prevent them from providing the intensive, individual instruction to students who need additional support. The SES program offers educators an opportunity to provide children who are struggling in school with extra academic help and individual instruction. Tutoring can also provide students with a safe, nurturing environment outside of school. Ultimately, this tutoring can help children become more productive, successful students in their regular classrooms.
Families often see school staff as the first and often best source of information about their child’s performance and their options for academic improvement. If families have questions about eligibility for SES or about local providers, they are likely to ask their child’s teacher or principal. When asked, principals, teachers and other school staff can help families pick the best provider for each child by learning about the SES providers approved to work in New York City.

The 2nd SES enrollment period will run from 2/6/12 thru 2/17/12. Enrollment is no longer open to reduced price meal plan students, only free lunch plan students qualify. In the event the demand for SES exceeds the level of funding reserved for SES, priority will be given to the academically lowest-achieving students. Notification to schools and, in turn, to parents/guardians, will be handled out of the SES Office. Please do not take it upon yourself to begin contacting parents about eligibility. All SES services will be suspended from February 13th thru 5am March 5th.
