Specifically, Portfolio is responsible for:
· The creation of new schools.
· The authorization, monitoring, and support of charter schools.
· The approval of school grade expansions. · The development and administration of career and technical education (CTE) programs, which enable students to graduate with both a Regents diploma and work experience that counts toward a professional credential.
· The development of small learning communities (SLCs) within existing larger schools, which are programs that have both the benefits of more personalized academic experiences and the opportunities provided by larger schools.
· The evaluation of opportunities to expand and equitably distribute pre-kindergarten, gifted and talented, and other programs.
· The equitable geographic distribution of classes and programs throughout the City to meet the needs of all students.· The reconfiguration of existing schools by the expansion or truncation of grade levels in order to enhance and increase access to high quality options for students and families. Portfolio is currently soliciting letters of intent to apply from School Leadership Teams (SLTs) who are interested in changing the configuration of their school’s grade span in order to meet one or more of the objectives above. · The supports provided to principals and program directors so that they can develop the best plan for sharing space in facilities that house multiple programs and/or schools.
