The mission of the Office of School and Youth Development (OSYD) is to ensure that New York City's public schools are safe and supportive for all students. To support students in their academic and social growth and promote positive school climate and culture, OSYD works directly with schools as well as with Integrated Service Centers (ISCs) and School Support Organizations to establish and implement consistent, Integrated policies and practices that result in a coordinated approach to student support services and school safety.

Our areas of focus include:
  • School Climate and Culture

  • Guidance and Counseling

  • School Safety and Discipline

  • Graduation Requirements

  • Attendance

  • Additional student support services including services for students living in temporary housing and child abuse identification, prevention and intervention

  • Professional Development for school staff. 

    We also work to help strengthen school-community partnerships.
