Condom Availability Program

As part of the mandated New York City DOE HIV/AIDS Prevention Program, all high schools are required to have a Health Resource Room (HRR) where free condoms, health information, and health referrals are available to students.

For detailed information about the Condom Availability Program (CAP) please review this summary

To become part of the CAP program you must attend a mandatory training. The next CAP training starts March 9, 2012. Registration is now open. To register please complete this online form

Additional information regarding upcoming trainings will be posted in the Principals' Weekly.

Chancellor’s Requirements for the Program (compliance with all requirements will be assessed  by site visits):

  • The HRR team must have a minimum of one trained male and one trained female on staff.
  • The HRR must be open for at least ten periods a week.
  • The HRR schedule must be posted prominently to assure that all students are aware of the program and hours/days of operation.
  • Students new to the school must be informed about the program, and receive the Student Letter.
  • The Parental Opt Out Letters must be sent to parents of students new to the school. If parents opt their children out, a list of the students’ identification numbers (without names) must be given to all health resource room staff. This “opt-out list” must be maintained confidentially. Letters must be placed in New Student Orientation Packets yearly.
