Earned Income Tax Credit

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a refundable federal, New York State, and New York City tax credit for individuals who work full or part time.  This year, New York City has its own EITC worth up to $215 for some people.  Families raising children can receive up to $5,805 when they file their taxes and claim the EITC.  If you have children and worked in 2004 and earned less than $35,000, you may be eligible.  If you do not have children, you may be eligible if you earned less than $12,500.  Even if you worked part time, only part of the year, or are unemployed now, you may be eligible.  But you must file a tax return in order to get this refund.
