Extended Use

Extended Use is any event at a school that is outside of the normal school day. It is also referred to as Extra Activity. An Extended Use of School Building charge is based on the time, period, space and labor used.

Effective September 1, 2006, the Department of Education will implement the new extended use system and its associated rate structure.  The new rate structure reflects what the DOE will be charging outside organizations.  Both the system and the new rate structure were both designed to be user friendly and aim to eliminate the complex permit cost calculations.   With the new rate structure, permit cost is calculated on a per hour of use room charge.  Between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. weekdays during school year, the use of space is free.  There is a minimum permit charge of $50.00.

A permit application must be completed and submitted for the use of the building.

This must be presented to the principal of the school and custodian for approval and reservation of space and labor required for the activity. Organization may calculate the cost of the permit using the Extended Use Calculator A permit application must be paid in full prior to the use of the building.

Permit Applications are entered in the WEB Extended Use System by the appropriate Borough Office.
