Q. How is a referral made? 
A. Referrals can be made by school personnel, parents and students to the Travel Training office.

Q. Who is eligible for the program?
A. Students with disabilities other than blindness or visual impairments, ages 14-21 who require instruction in travel skills and techniques in order to use public transportation independently.

Q. How is eligibility determined?
A. Students referred for travel training are assessed by Travel Training teachers to determine cognitive and functional readiness for the one-to-one instruction.

Q. How are parents involved?
A. Students participate in the program with parental consent. Daily interactions with the Travel Trainers providing information on students performance support the parents’ decision to allow independent travel.

Q. How long does Travel Training take?
A. The time varies according to the students’ needs. Typically, the one-to-one intensive instruction is completed within a three week time period. This may sound like a short period of time but it is daily instruction that is provided between two to four hours a day.

Q. What if a student is not ready for independent travel?
A. Prerequisite work can be recommended by Travel Training to school personnel and families to help prepare students for the actual program.
