Early Childhood
The Office of Early Childhood is committed to providing teachers with stellar professional training that addresses developmentally appropriate practices that match the way young children develop and learn. It is important to remember that although these children are in 'school', they developmentally require active play opportunities which develop their problem solving, reasoning and academic readiness abilities.
Presented are a range of instructional strategies that address the special needs of children in terms of their social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development. In recognizing the constitutional differences in children, this department holds the belief that a child's individual needs be met through the cognitive structure of scaffolding and differentiation.
Outreach and collaboration with other departments within our district, such as, Literacy, Mathematics, Speech/OT, PBS (behavior) and Autism, assists in exposing teachers to current research and information in the aforementioned areas of development.
To this end, we strive to always demonstrate best practices. The overarching goal is to allow for children to learn to their potential with pride and passion.
