The deadline for applications for jobs newly posted on July 1, 2008 is 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2008. Please be sure all applications include your 6-digit file number that was issued along with your NYC Certificate of Eligibility.

Principal vacancies are generally posted at the beginning and middle of each month and will be open for at least 15 days.  Posting dates may be adjusted for holidays or weekends. Click to view all open school-specific principal positions and the essay question you will be asked to address on your application.

Applications must be submitted online. Please follow the links to find your desired position. In order to apply for any of the positions listed above, you will need to enter your last name and your 6-digit file number to confirm that you have been accepted into the Principal Candidate Pool.

Please note: All currently-appointed New York City Schools principals are automatically placed in the Pool. All current DOE employees who tested onto principal eligibility lists under the Board of Examiners before 1990 are also already in the Pool.

As Pool members already have their resumes on file, applicants for school-specific postings will only need to complete the online application including a short essay highlighting and explaining why each is the best candidate for that specific school. This essay may be written in Microsoft Word (or any other word-processing software) and then must be copied and pasted into the space provided. As the application will time out after 45 minutes, we recommend that you prepare the essay in advance.
 
Selection for school appointments will be done in accordance with Chancellor’s Regulation C-30.

Please note: All applicants for principal positions in New York City schools are required to first enter the Principal Candidate Pool. Applicants are accepted into the Pool via a rigorous selection process that discerns their readiness for being a principal based on the DOE’s five School Leadership Competencies:

• Personal Leadership in Fostering a Culture of Excellence
• Use of Data
• Deep Knowledge of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment
• Staff Development and Sharing of School Leadership
• Resource Management
