PS 37 students get a special visit from Jennifer Lopez
Most New York City students get to see Jennifer Lopez only on television, in magazines, or at the movies.
But this week, students at PS 37 on Staten Island met the celebrity entertainer in their school gymnasium when she came to watch their performance of her hit “Let’s Get Loud.”
"JLo came to see us dance,” one of the student performers, Matthew Alonzo, said. “We did a fantastic job."
The 10- and 11-year-olds at PS 37, which serves autistic students, chose to dance to “Let’s Get Loud” at their fifth-grade moving up ceremony after their teacher, Kathy Amati, and paraprofessional, Rose Mondella, showed them the song's music video.
They wrote to Ms. Lopez to ask her to attend the performance several months ago. Much to their delight, she accepted the invitation.
The school’s principal, Bill Fiorelli, was thrilled to welcome Ms. Lopez to PS 37.
"She enjoyed watching the students perform and later spent time with them and their parents in the classroom,” he said. “It was a wonderful day that we will not forget. Today, a dream came true for eight students with autism.”
