Since 2003, New York City public schools have been continually improving, thanks to generous individuals throughout the city who are deeply committed to helping our students succeed.
Individuals can support New York City public schools in numerous ways. Financial contributions help with the renovation of libraries, creation of arts programs, and the development of general education programs.
Volunteering time is an invaluable way to make a difference in a child’s life. There are thousands of organizations across the city that support public schools and provide opportunities to get involved. If you are interested in volunteering, mentoring, or contributing your expertise or resources to a particular public school, please consider volunteering with one of the organizations listed below. |

PENCIL (Public Education Needs Civic Involvement) |
| PENCIL encourages greater private sector participation in New York's public education system. In addition to its highly successful Principal for a Day program, PENCIL also operates the PENCIL Box, which enables New Yorkers to make in kind donations of goods and services to public schools. Junior Achievement |
| Junior Achievement of New York (JANY) provides age-appropriate financial literacy, workforce readiness and entrepreneurial programs to students in grades K-12 in classrooms throughout New York City and in after school programs with community-based partners. The programs are delivered by trained corporate and community volunteers. JANY also offers workplace visits and Job Shadow experiences.
