VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
Here at P233Q @ Beach Channel H.S. the vocational goal is to prepare students for the real world. “Work Qualities” such as being polite, dependable, cooperative, honest, flexible, confident and friendly (to mention only a few) are fostered each day in class. The students work on these qualities daily by completing in-house jobs such as mass mailings for community business (labeling, stuffing, sealing and organizing the mail by zip code). The students further exemplify these “qualities” by editing and producing a monthly school newspaper (copying, collating, and distributing.) Reading teacher-made “order forms” requesting items to be laminated as well as books and journals to be put together with the book binding machines is a job all students enjoy. The use and maintenance of various machines in the classroom such as the RisoGraph machine and AccuCut machine is also an essential part of their learning experience.
Recycling paper is also strongly encouraged by making pads. This job is created into a service project by giving the recycled pads to local hospitals and nursing homes in the community. Shredding paper also adds with our
“Going Green”
world by delivering the shredded paper to local pet stores. Our vocational program offers many opportunities to prepare students for post graduation. Work ethics and qualities are fostered daily as independence is encouraged.
