PS 20 is a vibrant, stimulating school nestled between the Lower East Side and the East Village. It is one of the oldest schools in the city, with a number of famous graduates (Ira Gershwin, for one!) having used their PS 20 education to become leaders in many different fields. The rigorous education continues in our present program, with our teachers and parents working extremely hard to bring an exciting, engaging, and well-rounded curriculum to our kids.
Our 600 students come from many corners of the world. Our primary ethnic groups are Puerto Rican, Chinese, Bengali, African-American, and Domincan. However, it would not at all be unexpected to hear Polish, French, Korean, or an African dialect in our halls. We are a melting pot in the true sense of the word. Our staff works extremely hard to take advantage of this diversity, using every opportunity to promote understanding and empathy in our next generation.
