Citywide Sessions Are Designed to Inform Parents About Ways to Become Involved in School Communities and to Support Parent Leadership
The New York City Department of Education is holding its second annual Fall Saturday Parent Academy, a series of workshops and informational sessions for all New York City Public School parents, in the upcoming weeks. The sessions will cover a wide variety of topics, including strategies to help children succeed in school, roles and responsibilities of Parent Association and Parent Teacher Association members, and other ways parents can become involved in their children's education at the district or citywide levels. Childcare will be provided, and translation and interpretation services will be available in Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, Haitian Creole, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Urdu.
The Fall Saturday Parent Academies are organized by the Department of Education’s Office for Family Engagement and Advocacy. Sessions will be held at the following locations:
· Queens: Saturday, October 17 at Aviation Career and Technical Education High School (45-30 36th Street) from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
· Manhattan and Brooklyn: Saturday, October 24 at P.S. 234 (292 Greenwich Street, Manhattan) from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
· Staten Island: Tuesday, November 10 at the Michael J. Petrides School (715 Ocean Terrace, Room 118) from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
· Bronx: Saturday, November 21 at the Felisa Rincon de Gautier Institute for Law and Public Policy (1440 Story Avenue) from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
