Parent Coordinator's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The spring 2009 semester has begun! It is important for students to continue to concentrate on their studies.  The semester progresses rather quickly and June will be here before you know it.  It is a very busy time for all students, particularly seniors faced with many important decisions regarding their plans for the future.  We advise all students and parents to utilize the resources available through the College and Career Office, in addition to the Guidance Department.  While we’re on the subject, I’d like to congratulate our January graduates!  We wish you continued success in all of your future endeavors.

There are many wonderful things going on at Tottenville High School for both students and parents.  You can obtain valuable information by attending monthly PTA meetings. The PTA, in conjunction with administration, has arranged to provide informative workshops for parents which will be conducted at upcoming meetings. Future topics include internet safety, planning for college and health related issues.  Meetings are generally held on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 7:30 PM. Also, be sure to mark your calendar for our 8th Annual College and Career Fair to be held on April 2nd. Parents and students are encouraged to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. Please feel free to call me for specific details.

Keeping the lines of communication open is essential to help build effective partnerships between parents and educators.  To this end, I encourage you to take advantage of the upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences to be held on the evening of March 26th (6:00P.M. to 8:30 P.M.) and the afternoon of March 27th (12:40 P.M. to 2:40 P.M.).  Please make every effort to attend.

As always, I ask that you encourage your students to get involved in the many extracurricular activities available at Tottenville High School. Please also be reminded that we have a wealth of tutoring opportunities for our students. Free tutoring is available during the school day (including lunch periods), after school, and on Saturdays as well.  Tutoring schedules can be obtained in the guidance office as well as the Parent Center.  If you have any questions about student activities (teams, clubs, etc.) or tutoring, please feel free to contact me at 718-356-2220 ext. 1216.

I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!

Respectfully,
Connie Assennato
