Carrie Huggins, English Teacher, Robert F. Kennedy High School

I have met numerous teachers at RFK who have taught me life lessons. However, there is one teacher who undeniably touched my heart by the way she cared for me. At a time where change seemed too hard to face and constant memories of my mother were being replayed in my mind, I found a teacher, a friend, and an inspiration to help me pull through. It was my 11th grade English teacher, Ms. Huggins, who embedded the skills in my mind for writing an essay and being creative. Most importantly though, she found the time to listen when desperation filled my life.

She's a hero to me, someone who I constantly look up to for encouragement and strength. She taught me that no matter where I came from or the circumstances I've faced, I can be successful, and I can separate myself from the ordinary by becoming extraordinary. When I had doubts in myself and in my peers, she was there with a smile to give me advice; she taught me that giving up is never the answer. In 11th grade, I accomplished things that I never imagined I could achieve.

So, I would like to thank her on my behalf and on the behalf of many other students I know who might not have been so open-minded and brilliant without her.
