Dear Parents,
Welcome to a new school year! I hope you and your family have had an enjoyable summer vacation.
Although your child is just beginning the 7th grade, it is time to start gathering information about high school. With that in mind, please be aware that 7th grade is the most important grade regarding high school. Your child's 7th grade state test scores, final class grades, conduct grades, absences and lateness data will be included on their high school application. Please encourage your child to work to his/her true potential so that he/she has the best possible chance of being accepted by the high school of their choice.
There are a few reminders worth mentioning as we begin the school year:
1. Lunch Forms - I.S. 281 must have a signed lunch form on file for every student. Please complete this and have your child return it to his/her homeroom teacher as soon as possible.
2. Planners - please check your child's planner on a daily basis to monitor their assignments and for any notes from his/her teachers. You can also communicate with your child's teacher by writing a note in the planner.
3. Discipline - we are once again instituting our Demerit System to address any discipline issues. If you have any concerns regarding a discipline issue, please contact the 7th grade dean, Mr. Somerville at 718-996-6706, ext. 3242.
4. Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) - we are very fortunate to have an active PTA here at I.S. 281. Within the next month, your child will bring home a PTA membership notice. Please make every effort to join our PTA and to attend the monthly meetings. Your active participation will make our school stronger.
Please remember to visit www.is281.com regularly for school news and event.
If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact me at 718-996-6706 ext. 3241.
