A&E Design Studios
- A & E Design Studios 1 and 2 are responsible for managing the design of architectural, structural, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and drainage components of capital improvement and new capacity projects. They utilize the professional services of consultants under requirements contract to the SCA to produce scope reports and contract documents for renovation projects at existing schools, as well as feasibility studies and contract documents for new school buildings, additions and leases.
- Design Studio 3 is comprised of the in-house technical staff. The in-house technical staff scopes and designs architectural, structural, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing and drainage components of both capital improvement and new capacity projects as well as prepares feasibility studies for new capacity projects. The in-house technical staff also reviews the work prepared by the consultants managed by Studios 1 and 2, and provides technical assistance to those Studios and to SCA’s Construction Management Department.
- Technical Standards and Support Studio is comprised of three groups, the technical standards group, the estimating unit, and the CADD Unit. The technical standards group develops and maintains the design standards for architectural, structural, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing and drainage, which govern school design and construction quality, and support value engineering. The technical standards group is also responsible for site/facility assessment studies, coordination of testing and surveying services, design review and technical staff development and providing technical assistance to Studios 1, 2 and 3. The estimating unit provides detailed estimates for in-house projects, reviews estimates for consultant projects, tracks current costs and maintains historical cost data. The CADD unit, which in addition to providing AutoCAD user assistance, assists A&E users of Expedition, manages the Alchemy database of school drawings, runs the Studio 3 Plan Desk, and publishes departmental bulletins and documents on the A&E Homepage. The Technical Standards and Support Studio also tracks submissions to SHPO and manages various special assignments.
- The Operations Studio provides support services for A&E and for the Authority through its three specialized groups: the Consultant Contract Funding Unit, which oversees consultant payments; the Public Art for Public Schools unit, which manages new art projects and the conservation of existing artwork; and the Management Support Unit, which reports on A&E project pipeline and assesses the consultant contract needs and requirements.
