As part of our curriculum, P 233Q @ CTEA created an in depth research project on the Titanic. In a collaborative effort, several classes constructed a sequentially accurate retelling of the sailing and sinking of this magnificent vessel. These classes followed the writing process in order to portray an accurate retelling of the voyage. In constructing the models, students used mathematical concepts such as measurement, and created a time line leading up to the sinking of the Titanic. Students studied the history of the Titanic and the story of the Unsinkable Molly Brown. Experiments on topics such as buoyancy and water displacement, infused science into this well thought out and implemented project. Students made this project interactive by recording sound effects on voice output devices. This project was an extremely successful example of the blending of many curriculum areas into a wonderful multi-layered learning experience!
