Instructional Support Services (Special Education)

PS 20 prides itself on providing an inclusive education for everyone.  There are several special education programs at our school.

Collaborative Team Teaching - This program mixes general education students with students with mild learning disabilities.  There are two teachers in the room, ensuring that every child receive maximum support.  We are extremely proud of the success these classes have had.

Self-contained Classrooms - We have three classrooms in which there are 12 students, one teacher, and one or more paraprofessionals.  Our staff works extremely hard to ensure that the students in these classes receive the best instruction possible, and that these students are mixed with a general education classroom for all enrichment activities.

Related Services - We currently provide speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and counseling.  The counseling is provided by our own guidance counselor, or by a licensed therapist from the Educational Alliance, a community-based organization that provides service on-site in our school.
