Scantron’s Performance Series assessments, administered online only, analyze each student’s individual responses to questions as the assessment is being taken and adapt the difficulty of the following questions to zero in on the student's current instructional level in reading, language arts, or math. Performance Series assessments are available online to every City school, and can be used as formative assessments for all students throughout the year, or as a supplement to a school's main periodic assessments for some students or at specific times. Computer-adaptive assessments are especially relevant for addressing the needs of students who are performing two or more years below or above grade level, including special education and gifted and talented students. Performance Series's individualized reports and suggested learning objectives also make it a useful diagnostic assessment at the beginning of a school year. Performance Series assessments may be administered up to three times each school year. We recommend allowing twelve weeks between each administration to allow enough time for significant instruction in the content area to take place between assessments.
Information About New USR Scores
The Performance Series SIP score has been replaced by a Unit Score Range (USR). The USR is a direct measure of overall student performance on New York State-aligned items and will allow educators to track student growth within a particular unit (e.g., Math - Numbers and Operations). A memo and FAQs on the new USRare available in the Periodic Assessment ARIS Community. You can also register for live webinars taking place February 5−10 that will explain the new USR and its uses.
