Message from Maria De Los A. Barreto, Principal
December 2009 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

As part of our School goals, we are writing group smart goals for our students. Each goal must be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time related.  I have described each of these categories below:
Specific - Describe what the student will do one year from now that s/he cannot do today.
Measurable - Describe the criteria that will be used to measure successful achievement of the goal.
Achievable - Based on the student’s current level of performance, what is a reasonable and attainable higher level of performance that the student will achieve within one year? (What will you see happening a year from now that you don’t see happening at the present time, and what can the student reasonably be expected to be able to do in one year)?
Relevant- Does the annual goal reflect individual needs identified in the Present Levels of Performance?
How does the annual goal relate to the student’s classroom performance?
Time Related - Describe how long the goal will take to achieve.
In Addition, the December issue of the School Newsletter concentrates on safety and our students’ accomplishments.

The New York City Department of Education is committed to ensuring that our schools are safe, secure and orderly environments in which teaching and learning take place each day.  Safe, supportive school environments depend on students, staff and parents demonstrating mutual respect. The Chancellors Regulations include the Student Bill of Rights and Responsibilities that promotes responsible student behavior and an atmosphere of dignity and respect by establishing guidelines to help students as they strive to become productive citizens in a diverse society. We ask that you go over our school’s policy included in this newsletter. It is important that our students understand that we have consequences for every misconduct infraction.

As you know, we have ended the first marking period and we have selected this marking periods Honor Roll students and students with Perfect Attendance.  I would like to congratulate our Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance students and remember that the sky is the limit.

Sincerely,
Maria De Los A. Barreto
Principal
