Pre-Kindergarten Admissions Update

Applications are now available for the second round of the pre-Kindergarten admissions process. The applications are due Friday, July 18.

New York City has more than 1,400 public schools. We want to help you find a school that’s right for your child and explain what you need to do to enroll. If your child is currently enrolled in or assigned to a New York City public school and you have a question about enrollment, please contact a borough enrollment office.


New students. Everything you need to know to enroll, whatever your grade level or location. If you’re new to the system, go here first.

Pre-Kindergarten students. Options and enrollment information for our youngest students.

Elementary school students. Most elementary school students attend schools in their neighborhood zones, but options exist.

Middle school students. We’re expanding our choices for middle school students, including many new smaller programs.

High school students. We have significantly expanded the options for students in grades 9-12, including many new small high schools and programs for struggling students.

Special programs. We offer a wide variety of special options for English Language Learners, students with special needs, gifted and talented, and more.

Non-resident students. If you live outside the five boroughs of New York City, special admissions requirements apply.
