Summer School

Summer school provides students with additional instructional support to ensure that they achieve proficiency in NYS Learning Standards and NYC Performance Standards in order to move on to the next grade level.  Students in grades 3-12 who have not yet met the criteria to be promoted to the next grade are encouraged to attend summer school.  To find out more about summer school requirements and eligibility, see Chancellor’s Regulation A-501

Individual schools administer summer school. If you have a question about whether your child should attend summer school, please contact the principal at your child's school.

For Parents:

2011 Summer School Calendar. District 75 Extended School Year Program for 2011 is a full day program that begins on Wednesday, July 6 and runs through Monday, August 15.  Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s school regarding the program.

Summer School Sites

  • Summer School Site List: This list outlines where each New York City Department of Education school is holding its summer program. Parents of NYC DOE students can use this list to see where their child's school will be holding its summer program. Parents of non-public school students or non-resident students can use this list to see summer school sites holding instructional programs this summer. Updates will be made to this list if summer schools sites change, so please view this page for the most recent version.

Summer School Enrollment

  • Students enrolled in an NYC DOE school: Each school manages enrollment for its summer program. Please contact your child's school for information.
  • Students not enrolled in an NYC DOE school: These enrollment guidelines provide information about how to enroll your child in a NYC DOE summer program. Families will also need to complete this non-resident application to register non-resident students in an NYC DOE summer program.
  • NYC resident students enrolled in a non-public or charter school: Non-public and charter schools may recommend NYC resident students for summer school in an NYC DOE public school. Schools will provide students with a form that indicates which courses the student should take during the summer. Families should take this form to a summer school site to register their child for summer school. Please contact your child's school for information.

See additional information about summer school and New York State and City tests in the Office of Family Information and Action section of the website.
