Since 1989, New Visions for Public Schools has worked with hundreds of parents, teachers, and principals to improve outcomes for NYC students. Over those years, it has leveraged more than $250 million in private funding to establish 122 small schools in NYC’s high-need neighborhoods, helped build the capacity of principals and leadership teams, and established partnerships with more than 225 community, university, and national education organizations. Emblematic of this cross-cutting work, the New Century High School Initiative (NCHSI) achieved a graduation rate of 78.5 percent for the 2006 cohort of students, its first senior class, with Special Education and ELL students promoted at rates more than 20 percent higher than the City average. Likewise, the 2007 cohort graduating class in 39 schools exceeded 77%, approximately 20% higher than the citywide average. New Visions has unique expertise in helping public schools use student data to focus instruction, providing customized support to principals and leadership teams, and advocating for resources and policies on behalf of public education. It intends to build on this record of collaborative innovation by providing resources and supports that meet schools’ distinctive needs. As a PSO, it will deepen and strengthen services to schools and increase accountability for student success, so that every student graduates ready for college or productive employment.
